Gorgeous Italian sunshine, glittering lakes or sun-soaked coastlines – saying “I do” in Italy is the stuff Pinterest boards were made for. But before you get carried away with dreamy décor and sunset selfies, there are a few thoughtful touches you’ll want to weave into your big day to keep your guests cool under the Tuscan sun (or wherever you are in Italy!)
Here’s our list of often-overlooked extras to make your destination wedding shine… without breaking a sweat.
Chic Water Stations
While your main focus has probably been the spritz selection, don’t overlook the need for H20. Italy’s climate means your guests will probably be gasping for more than just an aperol, so make sure there’s water available. These can look super stylish and make for cute photo opps too – think glass dispensers, fresh fruit slices and fancy cups and straws.
Cooling Fans (the pretty kind!)
Forget wedding favours you’ll leave behind, how about a cooling keepsake guests will actually use? Handheld fans aren’t just practical, they make for great photos too. We ordered handheld fans from Etsy that were personalised with our names and wedding date. Our guests still use them now! Hand-held parasols are a more expensive option but look great too.
Heat-Friendly Hair & Make-Up Touch-Ups
Beauty baskets are really common at UK weddings, but for some reason they’re rarely seen at weddings abroad. Buck the trend and consider setting up beauty baskets or a mini beauty bar with blotting papers, setting sprays, deodorant, SPF, and hair pins to help guests stay glam and glowing (not sweaty) all day. It’s a thoughtful touch that your bridesmaids and guests will adore.
Shady Chill-Out Spots
When planning your spaces, don’t forget to think about where your guests can cool off in the shade. Your venue might have ample shaded areas, but if not you might want to think about hiring static umbrellas or parasols, or even canopies and gazebos. You could even turn these into shaded seating areas with comfy cushions, throws and rustic seating so guests can escape the heat and enjoy the vibe in style.
Frozen Cocktails or Mocktails
Why sip warm beer in the sun when you can serve up slushy cocktails, frozen rosé (frosé, darling!), and ice-cold mocktails? It keeps spirits high and temperatures low. Speak to your bar caterer about incorporating frozen or cooling options into your bar menu: Think mango margaritas, frozen daiquiris, and refreshing elderflower spritzers.
Sensible Ceremony Timings
The biggest tip you’ll hear from Italian wedding planning pros: avoid that midday sun. Plan your ceremony for late afternoon or golden hour, when the light is soft, the heat is dipping, and everything looks straight out of a romance movie.
