How to maximise your venue budget for an Italian wedding

Your venue sets the tone for your entire wedding in Italy. It’s where the magic begins… but it’s also where a large portion of your budget will go. However, with a little strategy you can find a space that delivers far more than just a pretty backdrop. Here’s how to make your venue budget work harder (and smarter) for your dream Italian celebration.

Have your guests stay on site

One of the most effective ways to stretch your budget is to choose a venue where your guests can stay overnight. With Italian weddings, it’s entirely reasonable (if not often the norm) to ask guests to contribute to their accommodation… just like they would if they were staying in a hotel. Having guests stay on site also means you won’t need to put on transport for your guests (and trust me, taxis in Italy can be incredibly pricey if you’re getting married outside of the major cities). Plus, everyone gets to relax and enjoy the celebrations without worrying about the journey home. It’s more convenient for them, and it’s much less stress (and cost) for you.

Choose a venue with a Plan B option

Let’s talk about the weather. Italy might be famous for its sunshine, but even abroad, Mother Nature has her moments. A venue that offers a beautiful indoor or covered Plan B option  included in the hire cost is a major budget-saver. You’ll avoid last-minute tent rentals or emergency marquee hires, which can come with eye-watering price tags. Knowing you’ve got a seamless alternative in place means fewer worries, no added expenses, and a smoother experience all round.

Check what’s included

When comparing venues, check what’s actually included. Some spaces appear to be a good deal until you realise you need to hire everything from chairs to teaspoons. A venue that includes essentials like ceremony seating, tables, tableware, lighting, and sound equipment can save you thousands – not to mention the time and energy of sourcing these items separately. The more included (without hidden markups), the more you can allocate towards things that truly elevate your day, like food, florals or entertainment.

Choose a naturally beautiful space

The best wedding venues in Italy often need very little dressing. It’s easy to accentuate a beautiful venue. It’s harder (and more expensive) to hide ugly features. When your setting already looks incredible, you can keep décor simple and still create a jaw-dropping atmosphere. This doesn’t just cut back on floral and styling costs, it allows the venue’s natural beauty to shine.

A venue with a dedicated coordinator? Yes, Please.

Not every venue includes a coordinator, but if you find one that does, consider it a major bonus. Having somebody at the venue helping to manage suppliers, timelines and any hiccups can be a lifeline on your big day, and may even reduce the need for a full-service planner (which is one of the biggest costs in a destination wedding budget.) Even if you have a planner, a venue-based coordinator who knows the setting inside out can make everything run more smoothly… and that’s worth its weight in gold.
