If you’re currently in the throes of planning your Italian wedding, it can be easy to get so caught up in wedding details that you forget about the logistics of being in a whole other country. But trust me, a little phone prep before you travel can make life so much easier when you’re in Italy.
These are the apps we relied on constantly when travelling around Italy for venue viewings and the wedding itself. So get downloading, add them to your wedding website, and make sure you’ve shared with the wedding group chat.
For translating: DeepL
DeepL is A LOT more accurate than Google Translate, especially when it comes to Italian sentence structure and tone. It’s brilliant for menus, signs, messages, and even longer conversations.
For taxis: FreeNow or itTaxi
Uber isn’t widely used across Italy, and when it is available, it’s often more expensive. FreeNow works well in major cities and lets you book licensed taxis through an app, while itTaxi is extremely common in Italy and often the easiest option for getting a cab quickly.
For checking the weather: Il Meteo
Italian weather can be really localised and unpredictable… and if you’re anything like me, you’ll be stressing about the weather for months.
Il Meteo is the most accurate Italian weather app we found and is far more reliable than generic weather apps – especially important if you’re ceremony or events are outdoors.
For currency conversions: XE Currency Converter
XE Currency Converter is perfect for keeping track of your wedding budget (even harder in a foreign currency!) – as well as on-the-go checks when you’re spending once you arrive in Italy.
For getting around: CityMapper or Rome2Rio
You won’t want to be getting taxis everywhere, so these apps are great for navigating Italian cities and transport systems CityMapper is brilliant for public transport in larger cities, and Rome2Rio is ideal for planning longer journeys and understanding how to get from A to B using trains, buses and combinations of transport.
For booking train tickets: TrenItalia or Italo
Italy’s train system is excellent, and these apps make booking straightforward. TrenItalia is the main national rail operator, while Italo offers high speed trains on popular routes. You can also book through third party apps you’ll already be familiar with, like TrainLine.
For finding parking: EasyPark
If you’re hiring a car, EasyPark is a must-have. It helps you find and pay for parking in many Italian towns and cities without needing cash or local machines.
For finding restaurants: The Fork
The Fork is fantastic for finding restaurants and bars, reading reviews, and sometimes securing discounts or easy reservations.
For attractions and experiences: Get Your Guide
Perfect for booking museum tickets, tours, and experiences, often with skip-the-line options (and trust me, the skip-the-line options are often so worth it, especially in places like Rome or Florence.
For free audio tours: Rick Steves Audio Europe
This is such a gem that I only discovered recently. Rick Steves Audio Europe offers free, high-quality walking tours for loads of Italian cities, so you can explore and learn about what you’re looking at. Just don’t forget your headphones!
For free drinking water: Fontanelle d’Italia
Italy has thousands of free public water fountains… you just need to know where to find them. Fontanelle d’Italia helps you locate nearby fountains so you can refill your bottle… an easy way to stay hydrated and save money!
Toilets finding toilets: Flush
Flush helps you find nearby public toilets quickly. It might not be a glamorous download, but it’s a lifesaver!
- Download Flush for iOS
- Download Flush for Android
Download these apps before you travel, ideally while you still have reliable WiFi. Your future self with thank you!
